I currently have a Norton Antivirus Trial that came with my computer and the trial is about to end in 2 weeks.

I was wondering if there are any free programs that are similar to Norton Antivirus.

I am sorry you installed Norton anti-virus, it is the worst anti-virus application you can get and is almost impossible to completely remove. Make sure you download their removal tool. The best anti-virus available is Kaspersky or NOD32 (recent tests at av-comparatives.org).

A note about the spammers on the video game category?

Okay so maybe if you sign up you get your "free" video game system. I have mcafee antivirus which includes a "site advisor" that rates these sites "RED" which means anything from huge amounts of spam email to outright phishing. If you click on these links you notice there are multiple names for this site all of which redirect to main site. That should be a warning flag right there. The advisor said this site sends out an average of 80 espam emails a week per user! 80!!! Do you really want a free system that bad?

80?? I'm actually not surprised because I tried it one time and of course within minutes I noticed tons of bulk mail. Of course the occasional spam mail in the regular inbox as well.

That spam is definitely out of control. It's not cool that they are deceiving. I bet no one actually gets a video game system.

ONLy in Yahoo is my computer slow??

Even now as I am typing, I am typing way in front of the words appearing on the screen. I have finished typing, and sit there and wait for the words to appear.

When I open my mail, I wait, and wait for it to open, or even when i open pages in mail, i sit and wait for ages....BUT if i SHAKE my mouse VIOLENTLY the pages start to load and come onto my screen.

(I have just waited 15 seconds for those typed words to appear.)

This ONLY happens in YAHOO.

I am running win xp pro have bags of free space, mozilla firefox as explorer, norton antivirus from google.

So I'm not running anything ....'stupid' and I am running the old yahoo mail, coz its even WORSE in the new yahoo mail.

Any ideas, Oh I have checked the task manager, and nothing else is running when i am running yahoo.

The yahoo servers can only do so much processing at anyone time so if it's busy you can get long waits for anything to happen

this is something ive never seen before and i have no clue what it is so ill just discribe the problem and hope someone knows whats wrong and or how to fix it...

a week or so ago our computer got a virus called a zlob. after hundreds of free downloads and fiunally a 60$ norton antivirus the zlob was removed and we thought our computer would go back to normal. now is worse. in addition to extrordinary slowness not all of our applications are loading and many things such as internet browsers wont open. norton is unable to fix this nor is adaware (just updated yesterday) nor any other method weve yet discovored..ive thusly concluded that this is not the result of a virus (currently, perhaps past damage?) but we cant fix it until we find out what it is...reformatting is our last option..........please offer some alternative...

Try removing the Norton and installing a free anti-virus like AVG or Avast instead. Some of the commercial (thing Norton and McAfee) are so restrictive that they can make the PC run worst then the virus. Because they double and triple check every file when opened, it slows the machine, and they set firewall and other restrictions that can keep you from accessing the Internet.

If removing Norton does not do the trick, then you are probably looking at a reformat.

Slow laptop - please read?

My laptop was working fine til this week after I copied some cd's onto it to put on my mp3 player. I think I deleted the versions and emptied my recycle bin of them after I got them on my mp3 player but now my system in general is running slow. My internet is running fine and quick it's just things like startup, opening new windows, accessing menus which is slow. I've ran a full scan and there are no viruses, spyware etc, I've tried defrag and it says I don't need to, I tried system restore to 2 weeks ago and it says no systems were changed and I have plenty of free memory. Any suggestions? I use Norton Antivirus but see it isn't highly regarded...is there another spyware detector I could use as well as it? Also after reading some q %26 a's on here could it be just that my fan needs cleaned?

Yes it always a good idea to clean your fan...... But i am sure the problem is programs running in the back ground so if i was you i would remove the program you used to copy the CD with and find a new copy program.... or remove your from start-up.... Check for the icon in the bottom right corner of windows it should be the program you copy with and right click on it and close it.... It kind of like Yahoo Messenger running in the back ground when you start your computer, your computer takes time to load because its signs into Yahoo from the start-up, so the same for some down load music programs, you can turn this feature off....

If this helps, here's a few further details about my computer.

Windows XP Home Edition. The computer is a Dell, Dimension 1100. 2.53 GHz, with 256 MB of RAM.

My last De-frag session showed 57.77 GB (or 77%) free disk space.

Eventhough, all of my antivirus, spy-ware, defragmenting, registry scans etc. all showed no signs of any problems. I think the computer is acting slower than it should be.

Although the recommended ram is 512mb, my personal experience is that you should have 1024mb (1gb) of ram for windows xp to run at it's full potential.

Consider upgrading your ram, it doesn't cost alot at all and your computer will feel like it's brand new. This is a very common thing to slow down computers and I see it most days in my job as a computer engineer.

YES, 256MB is definitely not enough RAM. I am running XP and had 512 MB of RAM, then I bought an extra 1 GB on Ebay. Cost me $40, and arrived 2 weeks later.

So much faster now, wish I had done it sooner.

Make sure you check your computers compatibility first eg.

"1GB DDR Memory PC3200 400MHZ RAM PC 3200".

i have avg 7.5 free edition .i want to update my antivirus but i dont have internet i want to download the update file from browsing center and install in my computer where can i download the file. for how many days at once should i update .what will happen if i dont update

Can't download it on a computer that isn't connected to the internet, download it on a computer that has internet (manually from their website) put it on a flash drive, take it home and update ^^

but also on another note, if you don't have internet, you don't really need an anti-virus because you are only vulnerable to local attacks (people physically getting on your computer and putting a virus or something on your computer from a flash drive).
