Having both MaAfee and Norton Utiliies is it a good idea or an over kill?

I recently installed Norton Utilities that came with the Linksys router and I am on a 60 days Free Trial. I have been using McAfee Antivirus with Fire Wall protection for several years and it is being Renewed automatically through my credit card. Also which is a preferred utility Norton or McAfee Thank you Sriranga

Depending on the speed of your computer, having both may slow your computer down. But if you have a fast enough computer, it should do fine.

I don't see any large problems with McAfee nor Norton, except that they cost money and there are better freeware applications that seem to do the same, or better. I personally use Avast! Antivirus. Its free, you have a trial period which you have to subscribe after the trial is up (subscription is free) and it provides just about everything you get with McAfee or Norton.

Avast gives active security, a virus scan with a variety of options: you can choose what to scan, how thoroughly to scan it, and auto update just like the two programs you are using. I use it because it's free but its up to you, just offering my advice ^_^
Overkill, and potentially dangerous. Both the apps might conflict causing problems.
